Nietzsche 101
One of the most common misconceptions about Nietzsche’s philosophy - a misconception that also dogs much post-structuralist theory, especially Derrida’s work - is the conflation of perspectivism with absolute relativism.
Perspectivism is the claim that ideas always originate in contingent perspectives; the truth-value of any specific idea is immanent, not transcendent. This is not the same as saying that all ideas are equally valid (absolute relativism); it is simply to say that ideas don’t originate ex nihilo and that the specificity of an idea is inextricable from its origin. In other words, perspectivism is the idea that ideas have histories.
