In 1956, William S. Burroughs wrote an astounding document titled “Letter from a Master Addict to Dangerous Drug”; when Naked Lunch was published in 1959, it was based in many of the chemical experiences documented in that letter.
If you’re a scientist, doctor, social worker, or politician working on questions related to drug use and addiction, you should seriously read these two texts (most editions of Naked Lunchinclude the letter).  Together they are one of the best places to find insight into what Burroughs calls the Algebra of Need.
